SEPTEMBER TO DO:

So, I think I forgot that I actually had a to do list for August... :-) We'll see if I manage better this time around. Perhaps, I will, since it's of a primarily selfish bent...
  •  Lavender 'Silk Velvet Burnout' Dress (ME!)
  • Green Stripe (upholstery weight, boo-yeah!) Vest (ME!)
  • Life on Mars Annie/70's Outfit (ME!)
    • 70s blouse out of awesome yellow paisley crinkle lawn
    • black lightweight wool skirt
    • pinstripe vest
  • High-Waisted Skirt Experimentation? (ME!)
  • Sigh, second attempt at Madame Chan Visits Victoria custom order. The problem with custom orders via internet: lack of verification of measurements/ability to measure the customer yourself/relying on someone else for data vital to the project... At any rate, if you're interested, the one that was made to the (apparently) incorrect measurements, will probably be up in my etsy shop in a couple weeks, once it's returned. :-/ Be sure to measure yourself aptly before considering purchasing, however. ;-)
With that massive pile of deliciously earth-tone highly textured fabrics and Halloween around the corner, I should probably create some steampunk pieces for my etsy shop, as well...

  1. Kind of an aside (the Madame Chan dress made me think of it)...did you ever see the movie "Silk"? It takes place in the 1870s or 80s, and has this wonderful Japanese madame in it that wears these beautiful Asian influenced bustle gowns. :) The movie itself isn't that great, but the costuming was beautiful.

  2. sigh- that's a problem with custom orders. You never know if it will fit! Excellent to do list. ^_^

  3. Mistress of Disguise- Definitely have to check that one out. Costuming is always a redeeming factor in movies for me ;-)

Meg- We'll see how I do with this list. I'm not so sure they're that effective...

  4. If it's any consolation about measurements, it's a problem for everyone. I work at an opera company, and the costume department is always finding that the measurements they've been given for singers do not match the person when he or she arrives for fittings. Even when the measurements have been taken by other professional costumers! A lot of it has to do with people's definition of where to take each measurement. I know how I measure a centre back, for instance, but it may not start and stop at the same point as when you do it. And then there's just plain sloppiness!
