STATUS UPDATE

So I officially have been diagnosed with Tennis Elbow, Golfer's Elbow and Carpal Tunnel. I have a test scheduled for Monday to determine the extent of the Carpal Tunnel. Thus, no sewing for me for the next month, until my elbow(s) heal up (which hopefully will be soon, since I'm laying off the things I do at my embroidery job that caused the damage in the first place). Stupid fricken day job! Also, hearing 'you're too young to have these problems' from every person you admit your problem to, including the doctor is rather depressing. I'm just looking at it as it just means I work so hard that I've developed the sort of repetitive work injuries in 5 years that it takes factory workers 20 years to sustain. Yay me! (That's sarcasm if it doesn't read well).

Needless to say, it's been depressing to have to turn away/delay the sewing commissions I get this time of year. Not because I make a lot of money from them (because I definitely don't even clear minimum wage for my efforts), but because I enjoy the challenge and creative process, and that someone has a unique piece I made for them to (hopefully) enjoy!

I still have a finished project or two to share when I get the chance, so stay tuned...

  1. Thank you for sharing, Aimee. I'm sorry to hear about this (you hinted at it during our visit) but I'm glad the problem is identified and being treated. The worst thing is if you continued to work and made it worse.

Congratulations to Aya. She's one of my favorite people and I can imagine her wearing this cool piece. It's in her style-warehouse.

  2. Please keep calm and do not ignore the doctor's recommendations. This problems can quickly get permanent and it is not worth never being able to sew for a longer time for any interesting project! Get well soon!

  5. Ouch. As someone who deals with those issues and others in my arms, I can empathize. If you learn about any good elbow braces for someone with both ailments in one elbow, I'd love to know about it. The standard, padded elbow brace works well for that exterior tendon, but not so much for the interior one, and isn't really adequate at all when you need to support both. :P Good luck!
