Rockabilly Tuesday: Swimsuit Options

Due to holiday-ness, there was no Rockabilly post for last week.
Due to stupid heat and humidity, there is no Rockabilly project to share this week.

But I could use your help/input on a future project!
CaribbeanNylon-Spandex
So, I've decided that I a.) want a rockabilly style swimsuit and b.) will of course make it myself. I've already acquired the fabric (swimsuit spandex-lycra-nylon blend), a bright caribbean blue, nude lining fabric, and this random, crazy romance comic hibiscus print (for a sarong/wrap, I think).

THE QUESTION is... What Specific Style do I want to make my swimsuit?

 OPTION 1: 1940s Style
Source
What I like
 How adorable are these gals?
The high-waisted, and low leg of the bottoms with false skirt front!
Little belt.
Sweetheart neckline!
What I don't like
Despite the fact that I gave you a DIY halter tutorial last time around and really like the way the piece turned out, I still don't find halters to be comfortable (they hurt my neck!) not matter how badly I want to love wearing them.
Also, while we're being honest. No matter how toned my back and shoulder muscles are, I always get this nasty/ugly bulge where my bra (or halter band) cuts in because of, well, the weight the top supports.
Problems/Solutions/Adaptations
There is, of course the one-piece option and regular strap variation in this style, but it's not as cute, is it?

OPTION 2: Vintage 50s Swimsuit

What I like
The molded/formed/fitted cups, the gathers at the side seams, and the little front drape skirt.
That same retro cut of bottoms (lower on the leg, no having to pick your swimsuit out of your butt).
What I don't like
The straps? Also a halter? How will this stay up?
Problems/Solutions/Adaptations
This is obviously truly vintage and made of a cotton fabric rather than our fancy new age synthetic blends (the bodice back is fully shirred and elasticized to add stretch/fit to the cotton). Not a problem for many swimsuit adaptations. However, with the molded cups, I'm not sure how compensating for the stretch of the lycra-spandex whatnot will work out. Hmmm... Also to consider, I've chosen a solid colour rather than a print for the swimsuit.

OPTION 3: Modern Ruched Retro Swimsuit
Marilyn Swimsuit by Pin Up Girl Clothing
What I like
Sexy, fun texture that will cover flaws in my figure
What I don't like
Support? Will the ruching stretch/become heavy upon becoming wet?
Too modern looking?
Problems/Solutions/Adaptations
This is pretty simple and straighforward. And probably easy enough to figure out how to insert cups/support (as with the others).

Well, what do you all think? Any preferences? There might be a tutorial in it for you ;-)

  1. I would actually prefer the last version, as I also have bigger boobs and know the halter problem. I guess straps fit best to the last style!

  2. I really like the 1940s style, but I agree the halter isn't super comfortable. Could there be some way to cheat it (like the straps meet at the back of the neck, but then continue on downwards instead of being joined)?

  3. I think MC's idea is the right one - Option 1 is so great-looking that it'd be a shame to pass it up because of the halter-top problem. Keep the front and the skirt (the best part) the same, and change the back.

  4. I'm not competent to give feedback. In fact, I'm still reeling from the fact that you plan to make this yourself. Your talent floors me.
